The National Council for Women (NCW) was established by Presidential Decree No. 90 in the year 2000 as an independent institution under the Presidency of the Republic.  The Council is honored to have Her Excellency Mrs. Suzanne Mubarak, First Lady of Egypt, as the President of the National Council for Women.  NCW’s mandate aims at empowering Egyptian women in all fields.

Mandate of the NCW

The presidential decree establishing the NCW stipulated the following:

§   To propose public policy matters for society.

§   To draft a national plan for the advancement of women and for solving problems facing them.

§   To monitor and evaluate the implementation of public policy concerning women's issues.

§   To advice on the draft laws and decisions pertaining to women prior to their submission to the competent authority and to recommend draft laws and decisions needed for the advancement of women.

§  To advise on all agreements relating to women.

§  To represent women in international for a and organizations dealing with women's issues.

§   To establish a documentation center to collect information data and research on women.

§    To hold conferences ,seminars symposia and debates on women's issues.

NCW Strategy

NCW strategy confirms its fundamental vision to promote sustainable equitable human development by fostering a cohesive society in witch each member contributes to and benefits from development.

 

NCW aims to enhance the status of all Egyptian women and maximize their contribution to the growth and development of Egypt. The focus is on narrowing existing socio-economic gender gaps and addressing women's strategic needs including social ,economic and political empowerment.

 

The NCW has signed a series of protocols promoting cooperation with ministries and executive agencies and international cooperation.

This collaboration resulted in creating:

§    A center to support women's skills in the creation and encouragement of small enterprises

§    An office to receive and monitor women's grievances

    ( Ombudsman)

§    A documentation and information center.

§    A training center.

§    A specialized library.

§    A program for integration of women in national plan.

§    A training program to create an awareness of women's rights as provided for in international agreements.

 

 A geographic information system (GIS) on women in the Arab Republic of Egypt.
